OTC Recommends: The Flat Leather Document Folio

With the holidays so quickly approaching, I’d like to suggest a singular item for your wish list.

While most of us have briefcases and computer bags, many men are at a loss when we just need to carry around some papers or a few folders. The flat leather document folio fills the gap quite nicely.

I’ve written about these before and feel a certain missionary-like need to continue advocating on their behalf. Whether you’re jetting off to Paris or sitting down for a three o’clock staff meeting, your accessories should always be stylish and well thought out. While there are a variety of folio styles, the one with a zipper that opens up on three sides is a favorite of mine – the kind that can lay flat on a table.

True, flat folios have limited space and can never really compete with the functionality of a messenger bag or roomy elegance of a soft sided brief bag. You can’t fit a whole lot inside, but that’s part of the charm. By necessity you are forced to shed most of the stuff you carry around but never really use; simplification by requirement.

What to carry? A pad, a pen, some calling or business cards, and a few important documents should do the job.
